Benjamin Tindall research

In this post I will do a research about the Blue cabin by the sea that was created by the architect Tindall. An architect named Ben Tindall and his wife artist Jill watson have turned a fisherman's Hut in to a simple blue vacation home (Nast, 2020a). The hut is located beside the beach in scotland, where the hut has the greatests views of the port, as you can see the dolphins from your living room "Occasionally seals and even dolphins can be seen" (The Blue Cabin by the Sea, n.d.).

The Blue hut was built in the nineteenth century, and it always used for a vacation home the cabin was white but Tindmill and his wife painted it to Blue "Just don’t call it Yves Klein blue, too precious by half " (Nast, 2020a). He applied a typical boat paint—International Danube, to be precise (Nast, 2020a).

in the blue cabin Tindall installed a shower room in the centre of two bedrooms that can accommodate four people each, bunk beds in one, and regular king bed in the other room. They also changed the floor plan so that the living space had three windows and the open-plan kitchen was hidden. the Cabin was equipped with all the modern conveniences, like wi-fi, a flat-screen TV, and even a dishwasher (Nast, 2020a) . The living room and the kitchen were built in a small area room ' the open floor plan ', featuring the windows on three sides providing a lot of natural lights for the whole space. Within a comfortable eating and sitting area with a cornflower colour includes two Orkney chairs that keep the warmth from the fire within their distinctive hooded backs "says Tindall. Perhaps most striking are two traditional hooded Orkney chairs; originally the hoods were designed to keep in the warmth of the fire and fend off draughts" (room, 2010). and a wood burning fire surrounded by yellow tiles pattern with a willow design. a huge shell covered mirror hangs above the fireplace, also the walls are covered in a vintages photos of a ship (Batten, 2012). The thing that inspired me here is that the interior is rustic but more stylish for instance the the polished oak antique table with barley sugar legs, mahogany chairs and even the silk curtains.
To move to the kitchen, the kitchen is small in size but it has most of the features that a kitchen needs of a much bigger room such as, microwave and hidden little dishwasher. even the stunning door handles which was made by Tindall's wife Jill a watson a bronze sculpture that shows her attention to the small details (room, 2010). "The unique bronze cupboard handles and towel hooks were specially made by a sculptor for the Blue Cabin, modelled on seaweed from the harbour" (The Blue Cabin by the Sea, n.d.). I learned from this kitchen how to use a small space and provide all the needs without making the space cramped, even though Tindall included even the smallest details that make the interior sweeter and warmer, even the light he used reflected the beauty of the furniture and small details.

After I completed this research, it helped me to develop my ideas and my project to another level, and gave me ideas that will help make my space more unique like using pattern to the space in specific places. the first thing that this research gave me an idea is the colours and the combination of colours with the hue of blue. the second thing is how to use light so that it reflects the warm and contained atmosphere more than using a regular lights, which sometimes makes a nice space become less
