Reflection - Term II
This term, The workload decreased in amount while complexity increased. The Art Portfolio 1 (AP1) module was a challenging and educational experience that included creating perspectives in two dimensions and moving to 3D modelling, as well as exploring new workshops and materials.
In this term, I have been inducted to workshops which are, wood workshop, plastic workshop, and metal workshop, which was a new thing for me to use big machines that I am not used to. Anyway, the wood workshop was the one that I really enjoyed and was the one where I did most of my work for my 3D interior design model it was one of the best things that I have been introduced to this term because it makes everything much easier, as well as I had introduced to new materials that we can use for the 3D model which are MDF, solid wood, and chemical wood these materials were new to me and some of them was hard to work with for instance the chemical wood which needs more careful while using it. Moreover, I have improved my workshop skills and I think now I can use them more easily than from the beginning of the term.
However, I had some issues with my 2D perspective drawings, where this term the 2d outcomes should be hand-drawing which was much more challenging for me because my drawing skills are not good and I had to put more time than expected into each interior view, which lead to time being taken up that should have been spent on other work. Furthermore, the experimentation classes this term were really useful and helped me to consider the aspects I need to use or put in my design which helped me to correct some mistakes I might have made if I had not done the experimentation some of these mistakes are the colours that I was using after the experimentation I had better idea about my colour palette. Also, I've learned more about rendering materials using new colouring material which helped me to give the rendering more depth. Ideas development was the hardest thing that I've faced this term and I'm looking to improve it next term.
Moreover, for the first time I had to do a 3D model for my design, which was the most challenging thing in this term and took a lot of time, but doing a 3d model helped me to think more widely about the sourcing of the materials, planning, and doing the furnishing as well. During the process of doing the 3D model, I learned how to deal with really small objects which was so hard to make small pieces and take a lot of time to do only one piece, also I faced some problems cutting the materials like mount board but with the architectural model making skill class and the videos that were in the learning zone I've learned how to have a clean cut from the materials that I was using. Additionally, I realized that I had used a lot of what i had learned in term one in this term, but this term was more in-depth about everything. Anyway, 3D modelling was exciting but needs too much patience and I think my 3D outcome is great, and the only thing that I might change is if I had more time in the kitchen I am not satisfied with the kitchen and I think I had to work more on it.
However, this term was more in-depth about my progression route which is interior design and I've learned and widened my knowledge about interior design, especially in space planning, choosing materials, using sustainable materials in my design, and scaling, which will help me more in my future studies. Also, This programme taught me how to design, brainstorm, and prepare ideas for a professional portfolio. To add, I have improved my skills using Wix, homesbyme, Photoshop, and Procreate. Procreate I used it for digital sketches and I did one experiment but I realized it would take more time so I didn't use it so much but I have been introduced to it and how to use it. As a blogger, my research skills need to be improved more and I will try to improve them during the next term.
To sum up, this term was all about managing time and my time management was not good but I ended up finishing everything on time, and through this term, I've learned a lot and improved my skills and knowledge which will help during my university. I am happy about what I've learned and what I did this term and hope to improve next term.
Excellent reflection on the term very detailed and thoughtful
