Architect Marino: Louis Vuitton Research

The new Louis Vuitton store which is located on New Bond street in London affluent Mayfair neighbourhood, created by architect Peter Marino. It is an energetic visually stunning space that resembles a modern art museum more than a shop. Marino has created The sculpture of the Louis Vuitton logo in multiple colours represents the outer façade, which is an explosion of colour. Once you enter the explosion of colours is every where in every piece of art, fashion, and design that is on display. there are over forty-three works and specially created installations. (PROJECTS·, 2021) "Peter Marino Architect has renovated the Louis Vuitton’s London store with a channelled and colourful explosion, wrapping and marking the facade of the building." (World Architecture Community, 2019).

The interior space has undergone a comprehensive renovation, has three floors of sections, and has been widened by the removal of columns. After he worked with the company for more that 20 years, the architect shares his idea for the interior design project his goal was to increase the current space volume. The walls of the women section had its walls taken down and doubled the volume rooms, because they discovered that customers spend more time in such attractive spaces (PROJECTS·, 2021). how I compare this to my project is I am trying to do something that look lighter and gives happiness the same what Marino did while designing the space "There has been a real evolution towards something lighter, clearer and dare I say, happier." (Levy, 2019). By taking the walls down and making it bigger helped the interior and LV to have more space to display the products, also as the women section is the most section that people spent time in it is better to have a space with easy flow of movement where more customers can move freely without making the space feels crowded.

The shop has three roughly 8 meters long doubled volumes as well as a 12 meter long triple volume near the stairwell to eliminate square footage to give the guest a sense of wonder and luxury are these huge spaces achievable. In the entrance of the store marino used a floor of stone and marble that has been patterned to resemble the famous purses LV as a greeting for us at the entry. As shown in the image below(PROJECTS·, 2021).  I think by using this kind of stone in the entrance made it more interesting to walk in, as it is rare now to see people use this pattern in fashion stores so it gave it more unique touch.

The space natural stone and light wood cladding contrast with colourful strokes of paint and sculptural element. Furthermore, include the light oak doubled helix staircase, which balance the wood, resin, and LED totems that the artist Matt Gagnon was asked to create, followed by the orange spiral on the wall, a work by Josh Sperling, Aaron Curry's pink and orange maxi totem and, and Jim Lambie's optical staircase which was customer built for the store (Gugliotta, 2019). "[The staircase] happens to be one of those 'happy accidents' of fate. I still draw by hand, I had the tracing paper and remember it shifting, which left me with two stairs," (Levy, 2019) Marino said. In addition, the store has a lot of furniture and designers items, there is Cacoon chairs, from the ceiling, Concertina Shade lamps by raw edges.

However, the store has a lot of things that can be inspired from to able to create a space that has a connection between each corner and by the clothes by it self which will give the space more consistency. But the most two things that inspired me the most from LV store the way that Marino did the layout of the store Marino used the free flow layout where the customer can go in freely, also the products are arranged in a way that can be reached for everyone. The materials and the wide range of colours that is used in the store is are well studied by the architect Marino, all the colours harmonize with each other, giving a spirit of vitality. I am will try to corporate the use of colours and layout to my design with one or another as it is the first time for me playing with to much colours in one place. I relate this to my project in term of layout, colours.
