Space planning

This term the space planning will be for a retail store. Retail stores has a different space planning than the residential. Retail needs some specific needs so we can make it interesting for the client or for the customers.

If you want to create a nice overall atmosphere, it's crucial to know before you begin a project which area of the space need to remain free and spacious. Therefore, to make sure that the overall impression is neither overly busy nor very monotonously fixed, interior design must incorporate sections that act as transitions between sections at different times. Empty small spaces are essential to generate a greater flow.

When designing an interior, it's important to consider the most common traffic patterns in my store, where may most of the customers will spend there time in. And the easy way to do this is to draw on the floor plan of my interior design the movements that could happen everyday. So before i started designing my space I printed the floor plan in a small paper to just have a quick idea about how it could work and ow will the movement will be if i placed the furniture like this. After doing the movement i found out that is really crowded and there is not enough free space that people can move around. However the storage room was good and the measurements and the flow in it was good as the staff will only have the access to this room.

The other try was looking better than the first one here i have showed where the empty space should be and i kept 4.5m to 6m space between the furniture and the where the empty space will be. Secondly, I tried my best to have a better movement between each section for the customers, as you can see in the image above customers can move freely in and out the store without making the space crowded. The furniture is arranged with a enough space to move between them. The fitting room will be designed with 6 changing rooms and chairs for waiting and one big mirror in the middle and the name of the store will be displayed in the other wall so we created a great space for changing with good space to move freely and space to sit in to wait for you turn. Moreover our store is considered as a transition zone because it has only on entrance door " The space immediately inside the doorway where you stop to take in the room" (Ramstedt, 2020, pp.38)

This is my bubble plan for my first floor to have a clear idea about where each section will be. To make it more clean The total are of the store is 408.5m sq per each floor, fitting room = 37.5m, the storage room 32.5m, the staircase takes 10m, and 18.5m sq for the showcase section. the store will have 3 floors 1=women, 2= kids, and 3= men.

I will add the space planning for the other 2 floors once I got them.

Firstly, I started with removing the showcase wall and just keep the curve with all window to have more source of natural light and more space in the same time. For the first floor the main area equals 312m sq, and after i removed the wall in the second floor it becomes 338m sq which a difference that will make the work and the flow of movement easier. The image above was the first try so the room that names storage will become the toilets and it will equal to 37.5m sq and making the fitting room smaller to be 32.5m sq. The toilet section was a big empty square so I split the square into five section women, Men, baby changer, neutral, and disability toilets. firstly i did them all squares which each bathroom is suposed to have only one toilets, then i changed the women and men bathroom to have two toilets in each.

I then did another copy to imagine the flow of movement and where the empty space will be as well as where the outfits stands could be placed. Firstly I started with marking the empty spaces to keep them empty so to have a better flow and better design between each empty space and the area where the people where will be there should be at least 3 to 4.5 meter space between, the same what i did in the first floor i applied it to the second floor as well. As shown in the image above it shows a great flow of movement between each outfit stand customers can go in and out without getting stressed there is enough place for shopping and sitting as well. So to make it more clear because this is a kids section i thought that having more places to sit will benefit the space positively so in the middle i decide to put one column and a round chair around the column + the shoe section chairs ( 4.5m between the shoe section and the chairs). The bathroom know has more space for more people to use it so like that the crowd will less as more people will use in the same time and no need to wait more. For the fitting rooms as it smaller it can fit only four fittings and two chairs.

This is my bubble plan for my second flor (kids floor) to have a clear idea about where each section will be. The total area equal 408.5m sq, the main area = 338.09m sq, fitting room= 32.5m sq, toilet= 37.5m sq. As in the first floor the staircase takes 10m for the total area, to make it clear the lift and staircase will stay in the same place in all floors.
